This is a typescript of the trip diary kept by Ann S. Conner on her journey to Seattle, WA. Ann S. Conner was one of a second group of Mercer Girls brought to Seattle in 1866. In this trip diary, she tells of life on the steamer which took her from New York and around the southern point of South America. At the end of the diary, she includes a note to a friend, to whom she decided to mail the diary. Ann writes of life among the varied passengers on the ship, including Asa Mercer, and of several stops in Chile.

Ann S. Conner was born in Concord, NH in 1826. She was educated at the Exeter Female Academy in 1839, and sailed for the Washington Territory in 1866 as one of the women that Asa Mercer transported to Seattle as a settlement venture. She sailed on January 17, 1866 from New York. After arriving, Mercer gave her a letter of introduction to the then Territorial Governor Pickering. She taught school in Elma, WA.
